Our idea is to raise knowledge about the invisible water embedded in food. Water may not be scarce in Finland, but this country is also importing a lot of food from places where lack of water is an issue. Our aim is to make a mobile application to spread this information and to make it easier for students to make better food decisions.
In our app you can find information about the restaurants on campus and their menus. Besides the menus you should be able to find out how much water is used to produce the food and also where the food is coming from. Each student will be able to create an account where they can upload a profile and see how they are doing in terms of choosing the best food options. The students can then compare their results with others in a toplist. Also the restaurants should have profiles where they can easy update their information. The restaurants will themselves count out the water used in each menu in an easy manageable system and fill in where their food comes from.
We hope that this will make students and staff more interested in the issue of invisible water and to make them change their behavior, not only on the campus but also in the everyday life. Our goal is to launch this app in September 2016.
